17 Jan 2012 Redwood Shores - Oracle's Sun Fire X4800 M2 server has set an x86 world record, beating the best x86 results from IBM and HP on the TPC-C benchmark. This adds to Oracle's overall TPC-C world record result.
Oracle's Sun Fire X4800 M2, running Oracle Linux with the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel Release 2, Oracle Tuxedo, and Oracle Database 11g Release 2, achieved 4,803,718 transactions per minute (tpmC) with a price/performance of $.98/tpmC.
In this benchmark, the Sun Fire X4800 M2 server equipped with eight Intel Xeon E7-8870 processors and 4TB of Samsung's Green DDR3 memory, is nearly 3x faster than the best published eight-processor result posted by an IBM p570 server equipped with eight Power 6 processors and running DB2. Moreover, Oracle Database 11g running on the Sun Fire X4800 M2 server is nearly 60 percent faster than the best DB2 result running on IBM's x86 server.
With just eight processors, Oracle's Sun Fire X4800 M2 server surpassed the best published HP result posted by a 64-processor HP Superdome server and delivered nearly 3x better price per TPC-C transaction. Compared to HP's best x86 score with the Proliant DL580 G7, running Microsoft SQL Server, the Oracle solution is over 2.65x faster.
Based on the Intel Xeon processor E7 family, Oracle's Sun Fire X4470 M2 and Sun Fire X4800 M2 servers, along with networking and storage components engineered together with an industry leading software portfolio, enable Oracle to deliver complete business solutions that can be managed and supported via a single pane of glass interface using Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c.
Oracle's Sun Fire x86 systems with Oracle Linux or Oracle Solaris and Oracle VM Server for x86 deliver up to 51 percent lower three-year total cost of ownership (TCO) than comparable HP and IBM servers deployed with third-party operating systems and virtualization products, according to independent, third-party analysis documented in "The Optimized Stack: Reducing Total Cost of Ownership Through Vertical Integration" white paper.
The Sun Fire X4470 M2 and Sun Fire X4800 M2 servers are part of Oracle Validated Configurations which enable easier and faster deployment of Oracle Linux and Oracle VM-based solutions via pre-tested, validated architectures that improve the reliability and TCO of enterprise-class Linux deployments.
